Christmas came (very) early to NSG Lathom on Monday: more from Lizzie Orr its UK group communications manager:

'A new Christmas tree was planted as part of our Earth Day celebrations, and a small example of how we are reducing our carbon footprint – this means we now won’t need to ship in/out a tree each year. It's a Nordmann Fir, and we tried to source one as locally as possible – this one came from Cheshire as none were in the immediate area with root intact for transfer planting.

'Pupils from Lathom Park Primary School walk up to see our Christmas tree (when lit) every year, so we wanted to get them involved so they can watch the tree grow. We’re also committed to being carbon neutral by 2050 and are making good progress, with some parts of the business almost hitting their 2030 target of a 30% reduction already. NSG Group / Pilkington recently launched the world’s first low carbon glass with 52% less embodied carbon than standard float glass, so we’re changing the future of glass here in the UK!'

Commented Kirsty Myers, EHS manager at NSG Group: “The tree, planted as part of our Earth Day celebrations, is a small example of initiatives we are doing to reduce our carbon footprint, and we’ve been keen to get the children from Lathom Park Primary School involved ever since we found out about their annual trip.

"Now the tree, and the visit, will be even more significant for them, and they’ll be able to watch it grow as they do. They all worked really hard to help us with the planting, and we’re excited to welcome the children back later this year when we switch on the lights.”
