Mounted Police made their mark in Ormskirk yesterday as part of a week long operation in the town.
They were specifically targeting juvenile nuisance carried out by a group of ten or so youngsters who gather in Coronation Park or on Moor Street - besides the horse muck (good for the roses) the police left parts of Ormskirk much quieter; the trio spent some of the time on a 'charm offensive' with many passers by!
Anti social behaviour by a small number of teens is becoming more of an issue in the town centre, particularly with a reduced police presence on foot; on Saturday night one QLocal reader overheard four girls in a white Micra parked at Park Pool goading young lads on the park to fight each other to be filmed on their mobiles.
Local policing’s been raised on a regular basis by MP Rosie Cooper with the Chief Constable – and the Mounties appearance led to this classic conversation at the Booths garage in Burscough...
"Mounted Police are on patrol in Ormskirk tonight."
"Were they on horses?"
"They usually are. They’d look silly on police dogs wouldn't they?"
