Asmall School's Council worked hard last year supporting their school.
It consisted of seven pupils from years 2 to year 6, and they manned their own stall on a fundraising day, raising £60 which was spent on the reception class educational games and a mini greenhouse. They were also responsible for setting School rules that concern the children, and also led several school assemblies on topics including computer safety and eating healthy.
So it was no surprise to County Councillor Nikki Hennessy that they put a lot of thought into her visit. They wanted to show her all the great work that they had done together over the year.
When she visited Asmall School she was met by the Rebecca Whitfield, deputy head who explained that the School Council pupils had planned the afternoon for her.
The council had arranged a full itinerary, which included a tour of the school and to be introduced and welcomed into each class, and later over afternoon tea and biscuits the School Council were keen to find out about Cllr Hennessy's role and let her know what work they had done in school this year.
She received a lovely gift of a selection of fresh vegetable grown locally by a school council pupil, Tresawna Gielty, and the visit was concluded with a question and answer session by the whole school in assembly.
County Councillor Nikki Hennessy told QLocal how it's always a pleasure visiting schools in her local area and getting to know how well young people are being looked after and to see how their young minds are developing.
"The whole school assembly were very interested and keen to support being Dementia Friendly as I mentioned Alzheimer's was one of my charities when I was the Mayor of West Lancashire," she added.
"I want to thank the school council for putting so much thought in to my afternoon with the help of Mrs Whitfield as well as the rest of the pupils and the staff of Asmall School for being so welcoming.
"I look forward to visiting the School again and hearing about the great work this year's School council has done."
