Report from Kevin Maher
There was a flurry of activity and the smell of fresh paint in Aughton on Saturday as St Michael's school held a "tidy up day" to spruce up the school and the grounds.
Children and adults gave up the day to volunteer for removing rubbish, tidying the gardens, painting, cleaning and many other little jobs.
Local DIY store Hesfords supported the event with paint, wood stain, brushes, tools and cleaning materials.
Head teacher Fiona Cottam was grateful to everyone who helped, telling QLocal: "In order for our school site to look its best, a fantastic group of volunteers gave up their Saturday to complete all those little niggly jobs that needed doing around the grounds.
"We are extremely grateful to all those parents, staff and children who gave up their time and also to Hesford's who generously supported the event."
