Young people from the National Citizen Service (NCS) have been working on projects with the Borough Council's Parks and Countryside Rangers Service in Coronation Park.

NCS is a programme for 15-17-year-olds, giving them the opportunity to develop their skills including social, planning and team work to achieve a successful final project.

Two of this year's teams decided to focus their projects on Coronation Park, Ormskirk; the teams have been assisting with the Junior Rangers events during the school holidays and implementing their very own projects on site.

One team created a fairy trail through one of the woodlands, whilst the second team created small animal homes, to help our animal friends through the winter period. They also ran a social picnic for the local residents living near the park.

The Parks and Countryside Rangers would like to thank the teams for their enthusiasm and motivation throughout the holidays and wish them every success for the future.

Heidi McDougall, West Lancashire Borough Council Director of Leisure and Environment, said: "We are very grateful to the young people from the National Citizens Service for their efforts working alongside the Parks and Countryside Rangers over the summer. The two projects developed by the teams are fantastic and enhance the park for visitors and wildlife."

If you are part of a community group or organisation and would like to get involved in improving your local area then contact the Ranger Service on 01695 622794 or beacon.park@westlancs.gov.uk.
