Could you get 'fired up' to help your local firefighters?

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is looking to recruit more retained fire fighters at Ormskirk fire station; our thanks to Ralph Critchley and Mark Carr for their help in writing this short article.

Here's a snapshot of what Ralph Critchley's attended over the last few weeks:

24/10/16 04:01 Nursing home in Ormskirk. Fire involving heater unit in conservatory was attended by two appliances from Ormskirk. Breathing apparatus and a hose reel was used to extinguish the fire. Positive Pressure ventilation unit was used to clear the smoke from the building.

19/10/16 19:39 Property in Burscough. Reported as a house fire, so three appliances attended from Ormskirk & Tarleton. But it turned out to be a bonfire in garden, which was extinguished with our hose reel.

18/10/16 17:26 Property in Burscough. Fire involving oven, so three appliances attended from Ormskirk & Skelmersdale. The fire was out on arrival.

12/10/16 02:28 Ormskirk General Hospital. Fire in bedroom was attended by two appliances from Ormskirk. Breathing apparatus and a hose reel was used to extinguish the fire. Positive Pressure Ventilation Unit was used to clear the smoke from the building.

07/10/16 20:06 Rubbish fire on waste land in Ormskirk.

07/10/16 10:16 Automatic fire alarm in student accommodation in Ormskirk.

And although its next two week course starts on 28 November, the station is always keen to hear from folk wanting to help in this vital work; Mark told QLocal that anyone interested in joining the Retained at Ormskirk should pop along to one of their drill nights from 19:00 to 21:00 each Wednesday. It also has a new Twitter account - '@Ormskirk_Fire'
