Scrooge like bosses at the Borough Council have 'cancelled Christmas' in Burscough.

Borough cutbacks will see just two Christmas trees on display this year - one in Ormskirk town centre and the other in Skem with both Burscough and Up Holland missing out.

In a statement to QLocal, a BC PR officer said: "West Lancashire Borough Council is facing significant financial challenges and has decided, with reluctance, to restrict provision in 2016 to two Christmas trees – one in Ormskirk and one in Skelmersdale, neither of which have a parish council.

"Christmas trees in parish areas have in the main been provided by parish councils except for Up Holland and Burscough where, for a number of years, the Borough Council has provided trees.

"Unfortunately, this provision will not be available in 2016 or in future years. This will ensure the Borough Council maintains a consistent approach across all the parish councils.

"We have written to Burscough and Up Holland so they have time to make alternative arrangements."

Burscough PC Clerk Tess Reddington is unhappy at the decision, saying the BC has left it too late for proper alternative arrangements to be made; its tree is usually sited at the corner of Junction Lane and Liverpool Road. It's hoped the tree that's usually stands in The Wharf will be on display as usual.
