Report: Margaret James
Fifty years ago, Sybil Shepherd invited 25 locals to form a ladies group.
They called themselves Trenchfield after a skirmish in Aughton at the time of the siege of Lathom House during the civil war.
The ladies have met in each other's homes once a month since March 1968 being entertained by a tremendous variety of interesting speakers.
For many reasons the time has sadly come to disband and the group is planning to go out on a 'high' with a celebratory farewell lunch in July to Gibbon Bridge Hotel, Chipping.
And Ormskirk's Roger Blaxall was privileged to be one of their recent speakers as he gave his popular evacuees talk 'Should I stay or should I go?" last Wednesday evening which was thoroughly enjoyed by all, reviving not a few memories for some.
