Work on an underground gas pipe in Ormskirk, essential to maintain a safe and reliable energy supply to local homes, is due to start on Thursday.

Local gas network Cadent needs to relocate a pipe under Burscough Road, close to the junction with County Road.

As Cadent’s engineers will be working in the southbound lane of Burscough Road (heading into Ormskirk), this lane will be closed for the duration of the two-week project. Motorists will not be able to turn from County Road into Burscough Road. A diversion route will be clearly signposted* - the northbound lane is not affected.

Cadent has posted letters to all residents and businesses in the immediate local area, advising them of the work and explaining that access to properties will be maintained; gas supplies should not be interrupted during the work.

A Cadent PR officer told QLocal: “This is essential work to make sure we can continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to homes in this area of Ormskirk.

"We have worked closely with Lancashire County Council to minimise disruption, with a lane closure and diversion in place for everyone’s safety. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

*diversion route is: continue on County Road (A59) southbound, turn left onto Southport Road, left onto Derby Street, left onto Burscough Street and straight over onto Burscough Road.
