There's an exciting programme of upcoming exhibitions and events to be enjoyed at Lancashire's museums.

Many different activities are on offer, ranging from watching a weaving demonstration at Queen Street Mill in Burnley, to experiencing life in a World War One trench at the Museum of Lancashire in Preston, and seeing a monumental Roman tombstone at Lancaster City Museum.

Lancashire's museums will also be hosting many new exhibitions. Highlights include the Bring Me Sunshine exhibition at Lancaster City Museum, featuring national comedy icon and Lancastrian Eric Morecambe.

There's also a Cotton to Gold exhibition at the Museum of Lancashire. Visitors to this exhibition will be able to see collections from an industrial north west, including Roman coins, medieval manuscripts and Turner watercolours. This exhibition has already received great acclaim at its display in London in 2015.

Gawthorpe Hall in Burnley will host the Literary Lions exhibition, celebrating Charlotte Bronte's bicentenary. This display highlights the impact that the author's visits to the hall had on her literary career.

Lancashire County Council's head of libraries, museums, culture and registrar's service, Julie Bell, said:"There is so much to be enjoyed in our museums, for residents and visitors of all ages.

"Our fantastic heritage is available to be discovered, especially as we are featuring the talents of both Eric Morecambe and Charlotte Bronte in exhibitions this year.

"All our museums have exhibitions that change quite regularly, so there is usually something new and exciting to see."

A handy leaflet has been produced to help visitors explore Lancashire's museums. Copies can be picked up from Lancashire libraries and tourist information centres in Lancashire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire and Derbyshire.

The leaflet will also be available from some railway stations and motorway service stations.

A copy of the leaflet can also be obtained by calling 01772 534075 or emailing museumoflancashire@lancashire.gov.uk
