The roofspace of a bungalow and garage was on fire and the fire ruptured a gas main. Five fire engines and crews (2 from Skelmersdale, 1 Fulwood, 1 Preston and 1 from Merseyside) responded.
Firefighters directed cooling water jets on three gas cylinders to prevent them from igniting and the gas from the broken main was allowed to burn under control until contractors had isolated the gas supply. Firefighters used hosereel jets to extinguish the fire.
No-one was injured and there was no need to evacuate people in neighbouring properties. The cause of the fire is to be established.
