A special flag is flying from County Hall to mark Armed Forces Day.
The flag was presented to County Councillor Janice Hanson, Chairman of Lancashire County Council, by Lt Col Richard Beatson, Deputy Lieutenant for Lancashire, at a special ceremony yesterday.
The flag marks the county council's appreciation of the contribution made by the UK's armed forces - past and present. It will fly until Armed Forces Day on Saturday 25 June.
All councils across Lancashire and most of the country will be marking Armed Forces Day in a similar way.
County Councillor Janice Hanson, chairman of the county council, said: "We're taking time to support the dedication and sacrifice of people in our armed forces, as well as veterans who served their country and the wider armed forces community.
"There's an added poignancy this year, as we think back to the events 100 years ago during the First World War and the sacrifices that were made by Lancastrians.
"Many men and women from Lancashire are currently in active service, both here and abroad, often spending weeks away from friends and family. We owe a great deal to the bravery of these men and women, and we're proud to be able to recognise their dedication and service."
The flag handover ceremony was witnessed by soldiers from Fulwood Barracks, veterans from the Royal British Legion and senior members of the county council, together with UNISON members, both past and present; and Father Timothy Lipscomb, vicar of Preston and Chaplain to the Veterans.
As part of this year's Armed Forces Day events and activities, people are being encouraged to share posts on social media using #SaluteOurForces.
