A veteran performance from Prescot cyclist Andy Martin was one of the highlights of this weekend’s Frank Morgan memorial road race.
Andy, 42, took the coveted ‘John Carlisle‘ award to recognize six race winning performances over recent years; the event is in memory of Frank Morgan, a local cyclist who tragically died in a car accident over 30 years ago.
Sunday’s race was again hosted by the North Mersey Business Centre; some 60 amateur and professional cyclists took part in the 50 mile race which laps the Kirkby industrial estate.
And winning riders aren’t just recognised with traditional 1st to 3rd prizes but also with veteran’s awards; Andy has competed in the race since its inception and was joined on the winners’ podium by Sami Alhadid from Stoke, Samuel Jackson and Nick Cooper who rides for the DFL In-Gear Development racing team.
Steve Dumbell, MD of the Knowsley Development Trust which owns the North Mersey Business Centre explained that he’s privileged to back such a successful community event each year; organisers have ‘access all areas’ to the park that’s ideally placed near the perimeter road.
