Scott’s was the talk of the town this week as people of good taste gathered at one of the town’s best known butchers as it launched a new delicatessen on Wednesday.

Folk crowded into its new look delicatessen which has seen the demise of its sandwich shop; MD Ian Bridge knows it’s a gamble, acknowledging that Scott’s needs more footfall to make its new business a success; the good news is that it had one of its busiest days ever on market day!

Its old deli was closed a few weeks ago for a comprehensive makeover and Mayor Liz Savage was called upon to do the honours with the scissors and traditional red ribbon. She in turn called on Grandma Scott - now in her nineties and living in The Fountains on Green Lane - to help cut the red ribbon before customers flocked in. They sampled a delicious selection of light bites, made from the best chicken and pork in a variety of flavours and washed down with a complimentary orange juice or champagne.

The good news is that thanks to an aggressive Facebook campaign the shop has raised its profile locally. And besides its retail trade, it is also very busy on the catering butchery side with a deserved reputation for its top quality meat that’s all butchered at the rear of its Church St. premises where Ian is pictured below.
