St Bede’s Catholic High school opened its doors for the first time sixty years ago, and as of its Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the Friends of St Bede’s provided two new cherry trees to mark the anniversary.

On Friday, Councillor Liz Savage, the Mayor of West Lancashire, officiated at the tree planting and time capsule burial.

The Friends of St Bede’s also supplied prizes for two competitions; one for producing an appropriate contents list for a time capsule - the winner was Matthew Reynolds in Year 10 – while Isabella Murray in Year 8 won the 60th Anniversary logo competition; this will be used throughout the academic year to highlight the diamond anniversary.

The trees were planted by staff and clients at Midstream, Skem. which caters for people with learning difficulties and other special needs.

The school community has a number of other celebration events planned throughout the year, with a Diamond Jubilee celebration evening on 15th July, 2017 being organised by the Friends of St Bede’s.

And the whole school will be celebrating Mass in Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral on the morning of 20th July 2017, and parents, past pupils, former staff and anyone with a connection to the school are invited to attend.
