The chair of the County Council's Highways Committee has now got personally involved in controversial plans to site a new pedestrian crossing on Aughton Street.

In an exclusive interview with QLocal on Saturday*, Ormskirk County Councillor John Fillis said he will be quizzing officers on why a new crossing is needed when there is a perfectly suitable one just 100 metres away.

QLocal has been the only media to highlight the story after a tip off from a regular reader a few months ago; Fillis's intervention will be a welcome boost to a petition launched by two local businesses against the crossing plan which some (erroneously) think is being bankrolled by Morrisons supermarket.
