Staff from Aughton’s Hillcroft Residential Care Home ran a successful Grand Easter Fair at The Civic on Thursday. It was raising funds for a number of new resources and to fund a new water feature which will enhance its warm, homely atmosphere.

The day went really well and I have had really good feedback from the people who attended - which I am of course absolutely thrilled about!

Staff and some of the residents ran stalls such as tombola, cakes, food, jewellery, books and bric-a-brac. And many folk form the home attended the event to enjoy the festivities. We had a brilliant raffle with many fantastic prizes with kind donations from local businesses such as Proctor and Gamble, Asda, Walkers crisps, AMF Bowling, Wigan and The Co-operative food shop on Westgate, Skem.

We had great feedback about the scrumptious food being served; hotpot and hotdogs with a nice brew to wash it down. Youngsters could buy a kiddie pack of treats- all money again going to Hillcroft.

We also had some beautiful outside stalls from local businesses including The Pin Up Boutique, The Body Shop, Sand Art, (African crafts), O.C. Crafts, Tillymints prints, Forever Living, Younique, All Stitched Up Knitwear, Phoenix cards, (embroidered gifts, and photograph crafts). They were all such lovely people, and each donated a prize from their own goods to our fundraising raffle.

There was live music all day from Jay Loines and Matt Swift, and also a set from Skelmersdale’s up and coming band, 'The Fossa'. The music went down an absolute treat - the talent from these lads gave the event such a great atmosphere! It had a 'festival feel' to the event with the bar being open.

We had a visit from the Easter Bunny who went down very well indeed, especially as he was giving out free healthy fruit sweets to the kiddies! He’s pictured top with manager Margaret Sutcliffe and supervisor Marie Noone.

We have a great list of brilliant events planned for the rest of the year including new Bingo nights - all of which will be advertised on our Face book page - search 'Hillcroft Residential Care Home' to find our page.
