All roads led to Ormskirk Parish Church on Saturday for its very first - and very successful - heritage open day.

It opened its doors with a whole range of activities to delight visitors to the historic building, with guides on hand to show people around the building and explain its many historic features including its magnificent variety of stained glass windows, one of the largest church organs in the region, the historic Derby chapel with its connections to the Earl of Derby, and a fine example of a seventeenth century font - and they even explained the legend behind its tower and spire (one of only three churches in the country)

On top of this respected local historian Jean Gidman will offered graveyard walks explaining the stories of some of the people who are buried there, and there was a fascinating display of church related history from Ormskirk Byegone Times.

Refreshments and historical displays were available throughout the day.
