MP Rosie Cooper's called on Lancashire County Council to carry out increased parking enforcement near schools with safety of both pupils and neighbours questioned.
Residents living within close proximity have long called for more action to be taken against drivers, including parents, who cause obstruction to residents attempting to leave their properties particularly during the early morning school drop off.
Inconsiderate parking from drivers has led to safety concerns with residents pulling out of driveways with little to no vision of passing cars or whether pupils are walking on the road.
Lancashire County Council has recently announced its rollout of ‘flying squads’ which will target parking at local authority schools in the near future.
With many residents having contacted Rosie over this issue, she has called on LCC to ensure West Lancashire schools are visited.
She told QLocal this afternoon: “School drop ff parking has been a major issue for many residents who have contacted me living near to a range of different schools across West Lancashire.
“The priority must be the safety of both the children, but also other pedestrians and motorists who are being put at risk due to inconsiderate parking including blocking driveways or vision and even those who are blocking the footpath to the extent where wheelchair users are being forced onto the highway.
“Having regularly contacted Lancashire County Council and campaigning on this issue for some time, I am pleased with the recent announcements, but have written again to LCC to ensure West Lancashire schools are targeted and the concerns of my constituents are addressed.”
