Amid the current dissatisfaction with street cleaning and grass verges at present by many constituents, MP Rosie Cooper's sought answers from the Borough Council’s Director of Street Scene.
Residents raised issues with Rosie over the quality of work and regularity of cleaning schedules in the borough, including around Nursery Avenue in Ormskirk.
Having written to the Borough Council, it is clear there is still a disconnect between them and the County Council, with each organisation having different responsibilities.
The Borough did confirm however that Nursery Avenue and its surrounding areas - like many areas across the borough - are on a two weekly cycle for manual cleansing, and up to 16 week cycle for mechanical cleansing.
Issues however remain over weed spraying, with LCC opting not to carry out borough wide weed spraying, leading to prevalent weeds establishing roots causing difficulty for the Borough Council’s mechanical sweeping to carry out its work effectively.
“It’s a mess!" said Rosie.
"I’m grateful for the commitment from the Borough Council to regular manual and mechanical street cleansing.
“The disconnect between West Lancashire and the County Council is leading to our area becoming shabby and unkempt looking and residents dissatisfied with current service levels.
“Thankfully, LCC have agreed to borough wide weed spraying for the latter part of the season.
“We need both councils to work together to ensure our towns and villages are an attractive place for people to visit and do business.”
