West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has secured a commitment from the Department for Transport to consider and assess proposals for an Ormskirk and Burscough Bypass.

Billions of pounds are to be set aside for the Major Road Network which will allow areas across the country to bid for infrastructure funding for vital, local roads.

MP Rosie wrote to the Transport Secretary Chris Grayling urging him to consider the merits of funding a bypass for Ormskirk and Burscough.

However, the Department for Transport have not yet come up with how they even plan to roll out this funding.

The Department are acting slowly, first going out to consultation later this year on how the funds may be allocated, before moving to inviting bids.

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“There is an opportunity here with money set aside for the Major Road Network for funding to be allocated for an Ormskirk and Burscough Bypass.

“The Department for Transport are faffing about trying to figure out what they actually mean by investing in local roads, they need to get on with taking bids.

“It is time also for our local authorities to get to work on drawing up a plan for what a bypass might look like and where the route will go.

“A bypass in West Lancashire has been talked about for decades but I have not given up on it, certainly not in light of this potential to bid for Government funding.

“We need to see action soon, not endless consultations and talking.”
