Ormskirk Bowling Club hosted the exciting Mayor’s Cup competition which raised £149.27 for the Mayor of West Lancashire’s Charity.

The event was organised jointly by the Mayor Councillor Liz Savage and her Charity Committee and Ormskirk Bowling Club; competitors came from all over the local area, including Southport and Maghull and 32 people took part in total.

A great day was had by all, despite the day starting with torrential rain making it touch and go whether games could be played. However, the stoical bowlers decided to play, and after a round robin first round, the clouds started to lift and so did the bowlers’ spirits - new pairs who hadn’t even played on the green before took three of the four semi-final places.

The final was won by Ian Gill and Ian Mayne, and the money raised will go to help the four worthy causes the Mayor has chosen to support this year. These are the Neo-Natal Unit at Ormskirk Hospital; the Artz Centre, Birch Green; The Civic in Ormskirk and the Birchwood Centre, Skelmersdale.
