QLocal's readers just love their local history! So it's hats off to Derek Hornby for another stroll down memory lane with some more more memories about old Aughton shops in Town Green and on Long Lane.

QLocal is delighted to print his email to reporter Roger Blaxall:

'The story about shops years ago in Town Green Aughton.

    May I add the following.

Mitchells (where Spar is now), there was a post office left side of the Spar building. The post office then moved to the right side of Huyton's butchers

Parrots Greengrocers next door, Huyton's butchers - yes and between Spar, and Parrots Greengrocers, there was a Chemist!

    How many locals remember?

Across the road on the corner of Winifred Lane was a children's clothes shop called Scallywags - and in the 1960s the shop was a popular sweet shop called Crosses; A lady called Mrs Cross owned the shop.

Also, on Long Lane there was a shop next door to the chapel.

Lastly, just past the Newsagents (on Bold Lane) was a petrol garage, called Bradleys.

    Regards,
    Derek Hornby'

And this from the Francis Frith website:

Whalley Drive - a Memory of Aughton.

I am the little boy on the tricycle and the lady standing next to me was Mrs Hornby our neighbour. I can remember the photographer asking us to remain outside our homes, to make the photograph more interesting. He had a large camera on a tripod and I remember him covering his head under the camera canopy to take the shot and being in the middle of the road. Of course there were few cars in those days.

A memory shared by Michael Pealing on Nov 16th, 2014.
