Can you see what this concerned Ormskirk resident is driving at?

Many usually regard the BMW 5 series as a fast car – now one’s being used to slow Ormskirk drivers down...

Kim Rawlinson, who lives near the junction with Moss Bank, now parks his car with prominent 20 signs in the front screen to remind drivers of the actual speed limit on the road which leads to Pontville School.

It’s one of several 20 roads in the town where few observe the speed limit; Kim says the law breaking can be most prevalent in the morning when taxi drivers are bringing pupils to school from all over Lancashire.

“Sometimes it can be like the Mulsanne Straight,” he told QLocal’s Roger Blaxall.

Now and again, Police erect SPID devices on lamp posts with their ‘smiley’ and ‘sad’ faces but they seem to have only a temporary effect.

Local residents can now request Police to mount community speed watches where errant drivers are contacted by post after being clocked for speeding – locally they are held on Long Lane and Burscough Road.
