Work's begun on fixing a water leak responsible for the dip in the road outside the former Magistrates courts on Derby St.
It'll mean massive disruption for town centre traffic on the last week before local school holidays - yesterday evening was bad enough with some drivers trying U turns near the Left Bank.
Councillors and council staff were informed of the works on Friday afternoon via e mail:
'TO ALL STAFF AND COUNCILLORS
Further to John Harrison’s previous email about the forthcoming works on Derby Street/Greetby Hill (from Stanley Street), the Council have been advised by LCC's Highway Regulation Team that United Utilities propose to close Derby Street in order to carry out emergency repairs to a water leak commencing on Sunday 17th July with an anticipated completion by the evening of Tuesday 19th July 2016. The section of the road to be closed is between Leyland Way and Railway Road, there will be a signed diversion in place for the duration of the works. Please note that it will be possible to get past the works by using Leyland Way (through Wheatsheaf Car Park) / Railway Road to access the offices from the westerly direction.
'The repair is being carried out by Balfour Beatty on behalf of United Utilities and I will be receiving updates from their site agent, Craig Dakin as work progresses. This is to fix the growing dip in the road outside TSB/Magistrates Court.
There is a chance that these works could take longer than anticipated.'
