The festive season is almost upon us and West Lancashire Borough Council has an excellent offer to encourage visitors to Ormskirk town centre to shop, have lunch and socialise with friends and family.

The Council is offering visitors to the town the chance to save money when using Council car parks in Ormskirk town centre. From Saturday 1 December 2018 to Monday 24 December 2018 (inclusive), drivers who buy a pay and display ticket will receive an additional two hours free parking. The offer doesn't apply to Council offices car park on Derby Street.

When combined with the recent changes to parking charges in Ormskirk town centre car parks this means drivers can park for up to five fabulous hours in all Council run car parks except for Derby Street for just £1. So if you are planning to meet friends for lunch or a coffee for a Christmas catch up and fancy browsing around some interesting shops, then you can now spend more time enjoying everything that Ormskirk has to offer.

Councillor John Hodson, portfolio holder for Planning, said: "Christmas is a very special time of year and this parking offer will be a great help to people and encourage them to spend time in Ormskirk this festive season."

Motorists should check the car park is Council-controlled by checking the signage and that a valid paid for ticket is displayed accordingly. The two extra free hours will not be shown on the ticket. So, for example, if you buy a ticket at 10am for three hour's parking the ticket will still show an expiry time of 1pm. However, during the special offer period, you will be able to park until 3pm.

Notices explaining the offer will be on display at the car parks. The Civil Parking Enforcement Officers are aware of the offer and will allow for the extra two hours after the indicated ticket expiry time.

Parking is free of charge on Council-controlled car parks in Ormskirk town centre on Sundays and Bank Holidays throughout the year.

Free parking in Wigan and at times in some other local towns. Need to reduce the burden on our town.

If we had free parking the students would fill the town and locals would not be able to park

So! I’ve got my free parking! Now what! Unless I want coffee in 100 varieties there’s nothing else worth bothering with. Perhaps we should have yet another public consultation exercise, oh I forget councillors don’t bother to listen to residents and nothing worth while ever becomes of them anyway.

Remember the so called public enquiry into the Town centre when consultants were employed at great cost to Residents! What ever become of that? And who was on this committee, well!, councillors, some friendly business’s. Edge Hill University and the Students Union. Not a single member of a local residents group was invited. Enough said!. The Towns a mess and will remain so whilst we have a council that’s not fit for purpose!

£1 parking for 5 hours is a pretty good offer but people still find the time to talk about the negatives ?
i like to hear some positive thoughts from the people that bemoan the town as to what they would like to see and how they think it could improve instead of just putting it down all the time .
if they think they know how to make the town better lets hear the ideas

It was the Labour parties councillors that insisted it was them and only them that had all the answers and ability to re-invigorate the local economy and elected to show the voters just what they could do! Well we are still waiting. Apart from Edge Hill name five major outstanding achievements that has en-richened the life sole and wealth of the town. I’d settle for just one, so how does the council prepose to resolve the parking issues effecting many many residents in and around the University? You talk the talk now walk the walk!

Edge Hill is winding down already. Vast majority of students go home for xmas & laundering. Many go home a week or more before the end of the semester. A free parking arrangement, close to the twenty-fifth would work.
