Ormskirk Parish Church was full of pomp and ceremony - along with some humour, too - on Wednesday evening for the licensing and installation of the town’s new vicar, Rev. Pauline Bicknell.
Some 250 folk from all over the town and district gathered at St Peter and St Paul's for the ceremony conducted by Bishop of Liverpool Paul Bayes and Archdeacon of Wigan and west Lancashire, Jennifer McKenzie.
It marks the end of over a year in the life of the church without a Vicar after the retirement of Rev Chris Jones; Pauline was warmly welcomed to her new post by dignitaries from the Borough and County Council along with representatives from other local churches and local youth organisations.
Lord Derby was on hand to walk with Pauline down the aisle for the ceremony which concluded an hour later as the Bishop ‘commanded’ the doors of the church be opened for Pauline to start her ministry in the town and at Lathom Chapel.
Pauline is pictured left on the first picture with the Bishop, Lord Derby and Archdeacon McKenzie prior to the service.
