6 November: The English Village from 1750 to the present day. Stuart Elliott
An overview of economic & social life of English village life on the eve of the Industrial Revolution. A story brought up to present day following Second World War changes and considers the current ‘crisis’ of the English Village.
29 November: Canadian Pacific – the company that spanned the world. Dr Jim Ford
The history and effect of this well-known company.
4 December: Coal mining in Lancashire - Alan Davis.
Photographic record of Lancashire Coal Mining. Alan has worked in five collieries and studied Mining at St Helens College, publishing many books on the subject. He was colliery manager at Bacup, Lancashire’s last coal mine.
18 December: The origins of nursery rhymes - Jean Finney.
Amazing facts we taught our children without knowing. A light hearted evening of interest in historical facts to make you think and enjoy - followed by Christmas Social.
Membership fee is £18 pa, students and visitors £3 per session.
Visitors are most welcome. We meet at Four Land Ends Mission, Skelmersdale Road, Bickerstaffe, L39 0EZ and start at 7.30 pm; there is plenty of car parking space.
