Statement for Martin Kerridge, Ormskirk School head: "On behalf of all at the school, I offer congratulations to the GCSE cohort of 2017 who have been the first year group to sit the new GCSE courses in maths and English.
"This year, 68% of pupils achieved the Grade 4 passes in English and maths, with 41% securing the new Grade 5 ‘strong’ passes. 79% of pupils achieved a 4 or above in English, with 72% achieving 4 or above in maths, placing us above the national averages in each of those subjects.
"There have been some notable individual successes: 33 students achieved 5 or more A grades or equivalent, 21 achieved 7 or more such grades. There were also 13 students who secured nine or more top grades, including a number of the new ‘9’ grades indicating exceptional attainment.
"The school is very proud indeed of the pupils whose results are a credit to the enthusiasm, commitment and hard work of pupils and staff alike. I wish all of the pupils every future happiness and success."
