This week saw no change at the top of the Division One league table of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. We continue to have joint leaders as they both recorded 4-2 home victories this time around. Olympic BC made it four wins on the spin as they defeated Maghull RBL B 4-2 to move to the nineteen point mark. This win was very hard fought for the Olympic B boys as they found themselves 2-0 down early in the contest. The match also saw Olympic B's skipper, Paul Williams continue his wonderful form with a terrific 59 clearance to end his frame as well as a break of 30 earlier in the frame.

Reigning Champions, Southport Conservative Club also reached nineteen points to date as they ended their evening with their 4-2 success at the expense of Rainford X SSC. This was also their fourth consecutive win so far this term. The two leaders hold a two point advantage over the side directly below them. This match also saw the prolific Gareth Hibbott from the Southport outfit compile a tremendous break of 74 to seal this week's 'Break of the Week' prize and record the highest break to date in the First Division.

Gareth's break began at the start of the frame when he was left an excellent opportunity by his opponent and he didn't fail to disappoint. Gareth potted a medium range red followed by the blue ball. The balls lay pretty tight and after dispatching his next red, Gareth had to screw up the table to take the brown ball. He potted that brown and managed to gain excellent position on a red at the back of the pack of reds which he took with a black. He then cleverly got on the last open red with an angle to open up the pack. He did this with aplomb and gained ideal black ball position. After potting the black, Gareth proceeded to pot a further seven reds, all with either pink or black balls to mainly centre pockets with his usual precise potting and sublime positional play. This brought the break to seventy four with just four reds remaining of the frame. The fourth last red was really tricky into a middle pocket from a sharp angle and, very unfortunately, he narrowly missed it with a century looking like a formality as the remaining balls lay in favourable positions.

Maghull RBL A continue in third place but closed the gap to the above mentioned two points off the pace-setters with a solid 5-1 triumph over Skelmersdale Wardens A. This result was their third victory in their first four matches and will surely be in hot contention at the business end of the league table. The match saw Maghull A's Robbie Radford in good touch with a nice break of 34 in his frame win.

Upholland Social, defending Merit League Champions, moved back into fourth position after sharing the spoils in a hard fought 3-3 draw with Stanley Club A. The Upholland outfit will probably be the happier of the two teams as they fought back from a two frame deficit earlier in the match.

The match between Aughton Institute A and St Cuthberts was postponed and will be played later in the season. The Aughton Institute A side dropped into fifth spot in the league proceedings as a result of the postponement but have still made an excellent start to the campaign. They sit eight points off the leaders but now have a match in hand over all the teams above them.

The other match played this week saw Olympic BC A complete their best result so far this term with a comprehensive 5-1 away over Scarisbrick NSC. This outcome sees them move into sixth slot in the table.

Aughton Institute E sat out their free week this time around.

The Division One merit table sees Scarisbrick NSC continue to lead with 80 points and remain twelve points clear despite another heavy defeat this time around. Skelmersdale Wardens A remain in second place on 68 points after their defeat this particular week. Olympic BC A moved into third spot and lie on 67 points after their fine win this time.

Division 2

Aughton Institute C continue as pace-setters of the Second Division despite suffering a reversal this particular week. They went into battle with their club compatriots, Aughton Institute B in the Aughton 'Derby' match and at the end of a tense and exciting evening of snooker it saw the Aughton B outfit come out as 4-2 victors. This outcome sees the Aughton C team having their advantage cut to two points at the top of the table and the Aughton B side move into second position, those two points off the pace, but more importantly have a match in hand over their club rivals. This match saw Aughton B's Jim Grey in good form with a nice break of 22 in his frame win.

Farmers Club have dropped into third place after recording their third draw in their first four matches. This time around they went into battle with Skelmersdale Wardens B and after a tight match it saw the 3-3 stalemate reached. This result sees the Skelmersdale Wardens B team sit in sixth in the league standings.

Aughton Institute D improved further and moved into fourth spot after registered their second successive win. This week they defeated Skelmersdale Wardens C to find themselves in that fourth place and lie just three points off the summit of the table. This match saw Aughton D's Vinnie Siner in top nick as he compiled a really nice break of 28 in his frame success. This break was enough to take over as the highest break compiled so far in Division Two at this very early stage.

The other match played this week saw another 'Derby' match contested as Stanley Club C and club compatriots, Stanley Club B clash and it saw the Stanley B outfit triumph with a hard fought 4-2 victory. This was their first win of the current campaign and enough to lift them off the foot of the table into seventh place.
