This week saw Olympic BC B take over the leadership of Division One of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. They did this in emphatic style after a 6-0 demolition of Rainford X SSC and they now hold a three point advantage. This match saw Olympic B's Paul Williams clinch his third 'Break of the Week' accolade as he was in scintillating form with an excellent break of 54 then a superb classy contribution of 58 to seal this week's prize.

The frame began with Paul compiling a terrific break of 54 and remained in excellent position, and a very big break looked a really big possibility, until Paul unfortunately 'feathered' the cue ball committing a foul shot. On Paul's next visit to the table he engineered that classy break of 58. The break began with an excellent mid range red screwing over for the black ball and ideal position was gained. After potting that black ball, Paul took a further four reds, all with pink or black balls, in that trademark fluent style of his, pinpoint positional play and in very quick time to reach thirty eight. The next shot was key as Paul decided, with the frame well and truly won, to cross double the next red to really open the remainder of the frame up and he managed to pot the red and gain good position on his next colour. A further five pots followed to take the break to fifty eight and, very unfortunately, that's were this superb break ended as he narrowly missed a tricky yellow ball but still a magnificent frame of high class snooker from Paul.

Paul narrowly missed out on becoming Individual Handicap Champion for the fourth time in the last five seasons last term as, unfortunately, he was beaten on the final black ball in the deciding frame of the contest. He has also been Individual Champion of the league twice in the last five seasons in 2012-13 & 2014-15 and not to mention Pairs Champion with his partner, Ian A Jones in successive campaigns in 2012-13 & 2013-14 as well as runners-up in 2015-16. In fact, Paul amazingly, captured all three Individual and Pairs Titles within our league in the 2012-13 campaign. To put this all into perspective, no player until then, in the seventy two year history of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League has achieve this monumental feat, in fact, only two players have ever won the Individual Championship and Individual Handicap in the same campaign which were Malcolm Cowley back in 1976-77 season and more recently, John Wade in the 2003-04 campaign. Paul, an ever present member of the Ormskirk League Representative Team, was again part of our victorious squad that last November won the UK League snooker Tournament for an amazing third time after wins in 2010 & 2012 as well as runners-up in 2011 & 2014 an unbelievable achievement for a small league like ourselves.
