There was no change concerning the top two sides battling it out for honours in Division One of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. Five times defending Champions, Southport Conservative Club who are looking for that record-breaking sixth successive crown had their match with Aughton Institute E postponed and this match has been rescheduled for Tuesday 3rd April. The Southport lads continue in a very healthy position as they hold a three point advantage and have that all important match in hand.

Olympic BC B remain in second place this particular week as it was their turn to sit out their free week. The Walton B team lie those three points off the pace but they will certainly be at the business end of things throughout the entire season in their quest to seal their first Division One crown.

With the top two out of action, Maghull RBL A had the chance to close the gap on them and they certainly didn't disappoint as they ended their evening with a solid 5-1 away triumph at the expense of St Cuthberts and came within a whisker of making it four 6-0 victories in a row as their player lost than one frame conceded on the final black ball. The result sees them continue in third spot in the league table were they find themselves just five points off the pace although they have played more matches than the sides above them. The match also saw Maghull A's Mark Evans grab this week's 'Break of the Week' accolade with a terrific break of 50 in his frame success.

Mark's break began with nine reds of the frame remaining, as Mark trailed in the frame by several points, when he was given an opportunity by his opponent. Mark potted a fine opening red to gain excellent position on the blue ball. He dispatched that blue ball and, very quickly, reached thirty in his break with a further three reds, all with blacks. His next red was tricky as it lay near a side cushion but Mark took it with aplomb followed by the blue ball. A further two reds were dispatched, one with the black and the other with the blue ball, to reach the half century mark. The penultimate red was also a difficult pot as it required the use of the rest and, unfortunately, Mark narrowly missed to bring an end to a superb contribution.

Upholland Social went into battle this time around with Maghull RBL B and at the end of a good night's snooker it saw both teams unable to be separated in a 3-3 draw. The Maghull B outfit will definitely be the happier side as they were only able to field a five man team. This outcome sees the Upholland boys unchanged in fourth position and the Maghull B team in eighth. The match saw Maghull B's Leif Davey in fine nick with a nice break of 35 in his
frame win.

Aughton Institute A took on Stanley Club A this week in their continued quest to grab Merit League glory and it saw both teams share the spoils in a 3-3 stalemate. The result sees the Aughton A outfit remain in fifth slot in the league proceedings but also sees them in a healthy place in the Division One Merit League table. The match saw Stanley A's skipper, Frank Shaw, in excellent form with a nice break of 30 in his frame victory.

Olympic BC A sealed their first win of the year, and their seventh win of the current campaign, with a very solid 5-1 away success at the expense of Skelmersdale Wardens A. The outcome sees them continue in a creditable seventh in the current league table and they will be looking to push on for the remainder of the season.

The other match played this particular week saw Rainford X SSC and Scarisbrick NSC battle out a 3-3 draw in a match which never saw any more than a single frame in the contest between them.

Olympic BC B sat out their free week this week as mentioned above.

Other notable break this week was – N Barber (Maghull RBL A) 30.

The Division One merit table sees Aughton Institute A remain as leaders, and still a single point clear, after a draw this time around, they sit on 105 points but still have that all important match in hand over their three nearest rivals. Scarisbrick NSC continue in second position as they also drew their match this week and lie on 104 points. Upholland Social & Olympic BC A occupy joint third place after their draw and solid win respectively, they have 101 points.

The following matches need to be played no later than the end of March: Maghull RBL B v Aughton Inst E (Originally Scheduled Date - 12th September 2017) Maghull RBL B v Southport Con Club (Originally Scheduled Date - 17th October 2017) Skem Wardens A v Aughton Inst A (Originally Scheduled Date - 5th December 2017)

Division 2

Aughton Institute D continue to dominate at the summit of the Second Division league table although it was not their most fruitful week by a long way. They contested two matches within the week as, firstly, they played their outstanding match from last October and suffered a 4-2 reversal at the hands of Skelmersdale Wardens B. They also went into battle with Stanley Club B in this match week's scheduled game and at the end of the evening the spoils were shared in a 3-3 stalemate, a result they will also be disappointed with a they led 2-0 & 3-1 in the encounter. With those two outcomes recorded they still find themselves in a very healthy position with an ominous-looking eight point advantage at the head of affairs and it will surely need a massive effort from one of their nearest rivals to push them very close for the league crown. The match also saw Stanley B's Steve O'Hare in nice touch with a good break of 23 in his frame success.

Skelmersdale Wardens B moved in the right direction for the second week running after their two matches this time round. Firstly, they engineered that excellent 4-2 home triumph at the expense of the long time leaders but their scheduled match this week saw them contest the Skelmersdale 'Derby' match against club compatriots, Skelmersdale Wardens C and after an evening of tense snooker saw them come out the wrong side of a 4-2 scoreline. The match saw Skelmersdale C's Lee Sealey in fine form with a really nice break of 27 in his frame win. These results sees the Skelmersdale B outfit sit in second position in the league standings, those eight points off the pace. Meanwhile, Skelmersdale Wardens C continue in sixth in proceedings.

Aughton Institute C recorded the best outcome of the week with an excellent 5-1 away victory over Stanley Club C but, rather strangely, it saw them drop into third place in the table but that was due largely to the side directly above them having their two matches this time. They sit on the same amount of points as the second placed side.

The other match played this time around saw Farmers Club and Aughton Institute B battle a 3-3 stalemate in a match that never saw any more than one frame in the encounter. This result sees the Aughton B team in fourth spot and The Farmers lads in fifth slot in the league standings. The match saw Farmers Karl Prescott in good nick with a nice break of 24 in his frame victory.
