This particular week, in the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League, saw a break from the exciting league action, as the week was set aside for the First Round of our second cup competition and it's second year of the new format, the Le Rose Cup. The competition was played down to sixteen during last month so eight matches were competitively fought this last seven days.
Five teams were eliminated at the preliminary round stage in five time defending Division One Champions and current leaders this term, Southport Conservative Club, second placed Olympic BC B, Le Rose Cup Champions from two seasons ago, Maghull RBL B as well as Stanley Club B and their club compatriots, Stanley Club C.
There were, as usual, some very interesting ties. Defending Le Rose Cup Champions, Skelmersdale Wardens C from Division Two, fell at the very first hurdle in an incredible match with First Division high-flyers, Maghull RBL A, who were conceding a massive fifty two point a frame start to the opposition, 3-2 with Maghull A's Chris Connolly becoming the hero for his side with the extra frame decider victory. Chris also compiled an excellent break of 40 earlier in the contest to seal this week's 'Break of the Week' accolade and is currently the front runner for the competition's highest break award.
There were two all First Division clashes. Firstly, Stanley Club A put their disappointing league form aside and produced a very solid performance in giving opponents, Rainford X SSC twelve points a frame and ending the match with a 3-1 triumph to progress into the last eight in the competition.
The other all Division One tie saw Scarisbrick NSC overcome St Cuthberts in comprehensive style 3-1 to seal their place in the draw for the next round. The match was delicately poised at 1-1 but the Scarisbrick outfit certainly upped their game by capturing both doubles frames.
All remaining five matches saw First Division sides take on teams from Division Two and it saw some intriguing matches and outcomes.
Upholland Social, lying fourth in the league table in the top flight, defeated Skelmersdale Wardens B 3-1 to progress further and into the quarter-final hat. The match saw Upholland's Peter Hardaker in solid form with a nice break of 31 in his doubles frame win.
Another side to concede a very big start were Aughton Institute E, currently sitting in fifth slot in the Division One table, who came up against club compatriots, Aughton Institute B and the first of two Aughton 'Derby' matches on the same evening. The Aughton E boys were giving a huge forty eight points a frame to their rivals and this match also required an extra frame decider and it was the Aughton E outfit who won the battle 3-2 with Robbie Wilson continuing his sublime form of late winning for his side helped by fine breaks of 32 & 31. Aughton E's Dave Jones was also in nice touch with a well constructed break of 35 in his earlier doubles match.
The other Aughton 'Derby' match to be contested saw sixth placed in Division One and current Merit League pace-setters, Aughton Institute A go into battle with Second Division, Aughton Institute C, lying third in their Division. The expected close affair didn't materialise as the Aughton A side came out easy 4-0 victors, although the first two singles were very tight affairs and a spot in the last eight of this year's renewal.
Aughton Institute D, going very well in Division Two so far this term and lying in pole position in the table to take that crown, came up against the steady Olympic BC A outfit from the First Division and predictably it went the full distance needing that extra frame were Aughton D's Vinnie Siner duly won for his team to see them through to the next phase of the competition. That final frame decider saw both Aughton's Vinnie Siner and Olympic A's Jamie Ridge compile good breaks of 24.
The final match fought of the round saw First Division, Skelmersdale Wardens A overcome Division Two Farmers Club, who were giving their lower Division opponents fourteen points a frame start, 3-1 to earn themselves a place in the quarter-final draw.

Hi everyone! I'm a snooker player too. Just won a huge competition in Europe. I always was a very lucky guy. Also, my luck helps me in games of chance. Yeah, I'm a player. And I'm not a bad player. When I started to play live casino, I have started to earn a lot of money. Try it.
