This week saw another season commence in the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League as the Second Division took centre stage with ten teams competing and every side will play each opponent on three occasions for a twenty seven match season.

Farmers Club become the very early joint pace-setters as they recorded a superb 5-1 triumph over Skelmersdale Wardens C as they took the last four frames of the contest after it looked delicately poised at 1-1 after the first two frames. The Ormskirk outfit will certainly be looking to improve on their sixth place finish last term.

Meanwhile, Champions from two seasons ago, Stanley Club B, went into battle with club compatriots, Stanley Club C and at the end of the evening came out with a terrific 5-1 victory to become the other joint leaders. They too won the last four frames of their encounter to seal their excellent win. Stanley B's skipper, Chris McCann was in good nick as he compiled a nice break of 22 to seal his individual frame.

Skelmersdale Wardens A got of to an excellent winning start with a very solid 4-2 victory at the expense of club compatriots, Skelmersdale Wardens B to lie in joint second position at this very early stage. This match saw Skelmersdale B's new signing, Matty Valentine, in excellent touch as he engineered a fine break of 30 in his frame win and this contribution sets the early standard for the Divisional highest beak prize.

Also off to a winning start were St Cuthberts who clashed with Aughton Institute B and at the end of their battle it saw the Halsall lads complete a very solid 4-2 away success to also lie in joint third spot in the league standings

The other match played this week in Division Two saw last year's runaway Champions in Aughton Institute D meet last season's Runners-up and club compatriots, Aughton Institute C in the third of the 'Derby' matches in this opening week of matches. After a tough battle the match ended in a 3-3 stalemate to see the two sides sit in joint fifth slot in the league table. The match also saw Aughton C's Steve Moss in good early form with a nice break of 26 in his frame victory.

Next week sees the start of the Division One campaign.
