Southport Conservative Club continue to lead the way in Division One of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. This particular week saw them sit out their free week but they still hold a three point advantage.

Maghull RBL A continue in second position, those three points off the leaders as they also did not play this time around. Their match with Aughton Institute E was postponed and will be played next Thursday.

With the top two sides not competing this week it gave third placed, Olympic BC B the opportunity to close the gap on them and at the end of their evening they certainly did this in no uncertain terms as they recorded a 6-0 demolition over Aughton Institute A. This result sees them continue in third spot but now find themselves only four points off the pace and a three way battle for the title this term looks a formality. The Aughton A outfit drop into sixth in the league table. This match saw Olympic B's Paul Williams in good touch with a nice break of 34 in his frame success.

Upholland Social moved back into fourth slot in the standings after equalling their best performance of the campaign as they defeated Skelmersdale Wardens 5-1. This outcome also see the Upholland Social team well placed in their quest to retain the Division One Merit League title they captured last season.

Olympic BC A completed their fourth win of the current campaign with a fine 4-2 away triumph at the expense of struggling Stanley Club A. This result sees them move into a solid fifth position in the league proceedings. The match also saw Olympic A's skipper Vinnie Murphy capture this week's 'Break of the Week' prize with a superb break of 47 in his frame victory.

Vinnie's break began were he was left a chance by his opponent but certainly not a clear cut one as he had to pot a tricky red, screwing off the side cushion to obtain position on a colour. Vinnie executed this shot superbly and gained ideal black ball position. He dispatched that black ball and shortly after played a delicate shot cannoning into two reds to put them in potable positions. With excellent potting and fine cue ball control, Vinnie took a further four reds, three with blacks and one with the pink to reach the forty seven point mark. Vinnie was then faced with an awkward penultimate red and, unfortunately, he rattled it in the pocket to bring to an end a superb contribution.

Vinnie started representing Olympic BC in the Ormskirk League at the commencement of the 2008-09 season and just a single year later was a valuable member of his team that romped to the Third Division title by a mammoth twenty four points and made it a season to remember by sealing the Kenney Cup too for a memorable double. Vinnie won a terrific seventeen of his twenty one matches played that term. His side also captured the Division Two crown in 2013-14 to move into the First Division where they have remained ever since. Vinnie is now the captain of Olympic BC A in the top flight of our league.

Maghull RBL B end their night's work with a 4-2 win over Scarisbrick NSC and this result sees them continue in seventh in the table but they do have at least one match in hand over all of the six sides that lie above them.

The other match played this week saw Rainford X SSC record their second successive victory and best win of the campaign so far with an excellent 5-1 win over St Cuthberts. This outcome sees them maintain eighth in the standings.

The Division One merit table sees Scarisbrick NSC continue as leaders with 89 points after defeat this time around and had their advantage cut to ten points. Olympic BC A remain in second position after a fine win this particular week and now lie on 79 points. Rainford
X SSC moved into third slot after an excellent victory this week and now sit on 78 points.

Division 2

Aughton Institute D became the third different team to take over the leadership of Division Two and ironically it means all three Aughton sides have held the lead at some point after just nine weeks of the season. This time around saw the Aughton D outfit end their evening with a solid 4-2 home triumph over Farmers Club to now hit the summit courtesy of having one win more than the side directly below them. The Farmers side drop into fourth place but find themselves only a single point off the pace, in fact, things are so tight that only two points divide the first five teams in the league standings. This match saw Aughton D's skipper, Vinnie Siner in good nick again with a nice break of 24 in his frame success.

Last week's pace-setters, Aughton Institute B drop into second position after suffering their first reversal of the campaign after going 4-2 to an excellent Skelmersdale Wardens B display. The outcome sees the Aughton B outfit level on points with their club compatriots and leaders but, most importantly, have a match in hand over six of the seven sides in the Division, the Skelmersdale B lads move up into third spot sitting just one point off the lead.

Aughton Institute C went into battle with Stanley Club B and at the end of a hard fought match it saw the spoils shared as a 3-3 draw was reached. The result sees the Aughton C team continue in fifth slot and the defending Champions in a struggling seventh. The match also saw Aughton C's Richard Laird in fine form with a nice break of 27 in his frame win.

The other match played this week saw Skelmersdale Wardens C record their first victory of the season with a 4-2 success at the expense of Stanley Club C and this sees them continue in sixth in the league standings. The match saw Skelmersdale Wardens C's Ray Cody in terrific touch with nice breaks of 25 & 24 in his frame success.
