Division 1

Crosby Village SC & Stanley Club A remain joint leaders of Division One after the second round of matches in the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. Firstly, the Crosby outfit recorded their second successive victory this week with a 5-1 triumph at the expense of Aughton Institute A and will certainly be looking to get that maiden Division One title this term. This match saw Crosby Village new boy, Tommy Stevenson seal this week's 'Break of the Week' accolade with a fine break of 42 in his frame success.

Tommy's break began with an excellent opening red and it proved even more impressive as he gained excellent black ball position. Tommy dispatched the black ball and proceeded to effortlessly pot a further five reds with two further blacks and three blue balls as his break reached forty two. Tommy then faced a tough next red ball pot which he narrowly missed to sadly bring an end to a nice contribution. Tommy has only just began playing in the Ormskirk League at the beginning of this season and I am sure he will be an important member of the Crosby Village squad.

Meanwhile, Stanley Club A continued their excellent start to the campaign with another 5-1 victory. This week saw them victorious over Upholland Social and they sit joint pace-setters on ten points. This contest saw Stanley's Steve Rooney in excellent nick with a nice break of 33 in his easy frame win.

Quarry Green TAC continued their excellent start to life in the Ormskirk League after their excellent debut campaign last year. This time round saw them make it two successes from as many matches with a comprehensive 5-1 win over Rainford X SSC and they sit in third spot just a single point off the pace.

Maghull RBL A are now in sole possession of fourth spot this week after a 4-2 Maghull 'Derby' triumph over club compatriots, Maghull RBL B in tight, tense affair. This was the Maghull outfit's second successive 4-2 win at the beginning of the campaign. The Maghull RBL B team drop into fifth slot after this outcome. The newly formed Aughton Institute E side, the old Maghull RBL A team, got their season off to a perfect start, after last week's postponement, with a 6-0 demolition over Scarisbrick NSC, and lie in sixth but do have a match in hand over all five teams above them.

The other match played this week saw Olympic BC record their second consecutive draw from their two matches played to date. This week saw them battle out a 3-3 stalemate with St Cuthberts. The Walton team occupy seventh in the league standings.

Les Dodd SC, defending Champions and looking for an amazing fifth successive title this campaign, had to postpone their match with Skelmersdale Wardens A due to several players working commitments. Other notable breaks this week were – P Williams (Crosby Village SC) 36 & I A Jones (Crosby Village SC) 30.

Division 2

This week saw Stanley Club B become sole leaders at the summit of the Second Division after a hard fought 4-2 triumph over last week's joint leaders, Farmers Club. They now lead by a single point in their quest for the Division Two crown whilst the Ormskirk outfit drop into fourth in the standings. This match saw Stanley B's Steve O'Hare in fine touch with a well constructed break of 38 in his frame success.

Lathom & Burscough RBL A moved into second position, just that one point adrift of the pace-setters, with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Aughton Institute C. This was their second consecutive 5-1 win and also hold an important match in hand over the pace-setters. The Aughton Institute C team find themselves in the unusual position of bottom place in the league standings after a very slow start to the season but I am sure that will change in the weeks ahead.

Meanwhile, Aughton Institute D moved up two spots into third slot after a solid 5-1 win at the expense of Skelmersdale Wardens C. They sit just two points off the top and also have an important match in hand over top side and will surely be pushing for league honours this term.

The other match played this week saw Aughton Institute B seal a 4-2 success over Skelmersdale Wardens B to move into sixth slot at this early stage of proceedings and will be hoping to better their fourth place finish last year.
