This week saw no change at the top of the First Division of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League as, amazingly and probably creating more history within our league, the top four teams all recorded 6-0 demolitions of their opponents.

Firstly, Crosby Village SC maintain their slender lead at the top of the table as they comprehensively beat Aughton Institute A 6-0 to sit one point clear. This was the second successive 'perfect' result for the Crosby outfit since the resumption after the Christmas break, and their fifth of the current campaign, and will certainly be looking to continue that form as they push for their maiden Division One title.

Southport Conservative Club also ended their evening with a 6-0 scoreline against Skem. Wardens A to lie that single point off the pace in second place, but still hold that all important match in hand over all the teams around them. Just like the leaders, this also was the fifth whitewash of their opponents during this season by the Southport team. This match also saw Southport's Gareth Hibbott capture this week's 'Break of the Week' prize with a superb break of 49 in his frame success. This was his fifth 'Break of the Week' accolade already this term.

Gareth's break began midway through the frame with seven reds remaining and him holding a comfortable lead in the frame. His opponent had left him the opportunity, and as usual, took it with aplomb as after potting a solid opening red he gained ideal black ball position. Gareth potted that black, along with a further red and black to move quickly to sixteen. He then faced a couple of problems as balls lay awkwardly and had to take two long blues in the corner pockets to continue his break. As we have all come to expect, he overcome these hurdles with his usual accurate potting and fine positional play. Two more reds followed, both with high valued colours, to leave himself on the final red of the frame. On potting that red, he came a little too far for a comfortable blue ball pot but decided to take it by going up and down the table to gain position on the yellow ball. He dispatched that awkward blue to reach forty nine but didn't get ideal on the yellow ball. Unfortunately, Gareth over cut that awkward yellow to bring an end to fine, frame-winning contribution.

Gareth now owns an amazing fourteen spaces on the Ormskirk League's Centurion Plaque and no one will be surprised if he adds to that this term as he now plays at his new club, Southport Conservative Club.

Maghull RBL A completely an ideal night for themselves with a fine 6-0 triumph over their club compatriots, Maghull RBL B in the Maghull 'Derby' match. This outcome sees them continue in third position, four points off the pace. The match saw Maghull A's Chris Connolly is good nick with a nice break of 35 in his frame win.

Aughton Institute E completed the 6-0 sequence of wins as they sealed their victory in authoritative style against struggling Scarisbrick NSC. The result sees them unchanged in fourth spot in the league standings, five points off the leaders. They also, like the pace-setters, have now recorded back-to-back 6-0 whitewashes of their opposition since the return from the festive break.

Upholland Social continue to impressive as they were the fifth side to achieve a 6-0 win this week in the seven match contested. They demolished Stanley Club A, without doubt their best victory of the campaign, to swap places with them in the league proceedings and move into a very creditable sixth, just a single point behind the team directly above them. They have also hit top spot in the Division One Merit League table. The Burscough outfit drop in seventh in the table.

Rainford X SSC recorded their fourth success this term with a very solid 4-2 home triumph at the expense of fifth placed, Quarry Green TAC. This outcome sees them move up two places in the league table into a season's best eighth. The match saw Rainford's Dave Ellison continue with his fine campaign as he engineered a nice break of 37 to seal his tenth win.

The other match played this time around saw St Cuthberts quickly get back to winning ways with a solid 4-2 victory over Olympic BC. This result sees them move up a couple of positions in the league standings into ninth.

Other notable breaks this week were – J Holmes (Southport Conservative Club) 35, Paddy Tyndall (Southport Conservative Club) 32, R Radford (Maghull RBL A) 32, D Richards (Quarry Green TAC) 31 & P Davies (Maghull RBL A) 30.

The Division One merit table now sees new leaders in Upholland Social who move into top spot after an excellent result this week and now sit with a one point advantage on 93 points. Scarisbrick NSC drop into second place after their heavy defeat this time and lie on 92 points. Rainford X SSC find themselves in a clear third position after their solid win this time around and are 90 points.

Division 2

This week saw Stanley Club B continue as leaders of Division Two in their quest to lift the title this season. They went into battle with third placed, Aughton Institute B and it saw a predictable 3-3 scoreline reached at the end of the evening. This outcome sees the Burscough outfit now hold a three point advantage at the head of affairs and the Aughton B side remain in third place seven points off the pace.

Aughton Institute D continue to push the leaders hard for honours this term and remain in second position and have reduced their deficit to those three points after recording a 4-2 away triumph at the expense of Skelmersdale Wardens B. The result also sees the Skelmersdale B team unchanged in league position in fourth spot but sit a huge thirteen points off the pace.

Farmers Club got back to winning ways at the fourth time of asking after a 4-2 home victory over Aughton Institute C. This outcome sees the Ormskirk outfit unchanged in sixth whilst the Aughton C side also remain in the same position in fifth slot. The match also saw Aughton C's Steve Moss in good form with a nice break of 22 in his frame win.

The other match played in the Second Division this time around saw the bottom two teams clash in Lathom & Burscough RBL and Skelmersdale Wardens C and at the end of the match saw a 3-3 stalemate reached and this sees both their league positions remain the same.
