Police are seeking witnesses to an horrific road rage drama in which a man mowed down a female pedestrian.
Busy Aughton Street was closed all morning near the Queen Inn as officers dealt with the incident; all that was left at around 1.30 pm were fragments of glass after a passer by is reported to have smashed a car window prior to driver's arrest; the Citroen car involved had slight damage to a front panel on the passenger side.
This Police statement has just been released exclusively to QLocal: "We were called at 10:16 hours today (23rd July) to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Aughton Street, Ormskirk.
The car – a Citroen DS3 - mounted the pavement, colliding with the woman.
The woman, in her 60s, suffered injuries to her lower body and has been taken to Aintree Hospital.
Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A 62-year-old man from Ormskirk has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.
The road was closed between Queen Street and Park Road for around three hours while emergency services attended. It has since re-opened.
Anyone with information can call 101 quoting log number 433 23rd July."
Posted on QLocal Southport: 'It wasn't road rage.
It was the latest escalation of a long-running domestic dispute between a married couple.
There is no need to add anything else, as the Police are already very well aware of the history of this - they just need more people to corroborate what they were told at the scene by people who stepped in to help.'

I don't know either of the people, but I think we should be giving a huge amount of praise to the passers by who stepped in to help, and probably saved the poor woman's life.
In a time when we frequently hear about terrorists driving cars into pedestrians I can only imagine what they must have been thinking at the time, not knowing what may be occurring. They deserve so much praise and respect, they are heroes.
