Our West Lancashire, the local council independents, has spoken of the irony of an about turn by Sefton council over free 30 minute parking in the town.

"Southport businesses win the return of short stay parking in Southport in the same week as our Labour council here in West Lancashire blunders on with its plan to scrap free parking and all short stay parking in Ormskirk.

"It's not too late to think again and launch a full consultation of all businesses in Ormskirk Town Centre on the future of car parking in the town," he concluded.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! The free hour in the car park behind old Tesco’s was ideal for a quick dash into town, living on the way to Booths & Aldi, I won’t be shopping in Ormskirk if these increases are implemented!

Sefton aren’t introducing free half hour parking. They will be charging 80p for half an hour (it even states it in the linked article) but why let the facts get in the way.

Presumably that's the journalist getting carried away.

It's pointed out that short stay parking is returning to Southport, just as the council here in Ormskirk decides to scrap it. That's surely the point Labour councillors need to address.
