Artistic talent from all over west Lancashire and beyond will be at the fore at the latest Lancashire Open.

Ormskirk's new look Chapel Gallery hosts the prestigious art Exhibition that's now been unveiled to the public; over 350 artworks were considered for selection, submitted by artists from across the UK, with 203 now exhibited for members of the public to enjoy.

The Gallery, run by the Borough Council, hosts its annual Open until September 19. which is an annual celebration of talent, from accomplished amateur through to professional, and gives visitors the chance to see a variety of inspiring works created by talented individuals in a wide range of media.

If you're interested in purchasing real artworks, rather than mass produced prints, the Open Exhibition is a great way to source original pieces to suit all budgets as pieces range from small scale watercolours, prints and photography to large scale contemporary oil paintings, 3D works and textiles. It is a truly diverse exhibition with something for everyone to enjoy.

All the works were judged by guest selectors Tracey Eastham and Martyn Lucas, who are both established artists, curators and academics.

Several works of art received commendations and the overall winners were: Student Prize £150: Ali Barker, Fugue (Synaesthesia 130), Painting on Draped Canvas
Third Prize £200: Carole Dawber, Victoria Park, Textile
Joint Second Prize £200 each: Katherine Dereli, Wendy, Oil on Canvas and Kathryn Poole, The Earth was Disturbed at His Grave II, Pen & Ink Drawing.
First Prize £800: John Angus, Portrait E2, Screenprint

Mayor of West Lancashire, Councillor Noel Delaney with joint second prize winner Kathryn Poole.

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, the Council portfolio holder for Leisure, told QLocal yesterday: "The Open is one of the Gallery’s most popular exhibitions, where there is something for everyone to enjoy. It offers an excellent opportunity for any would be art collectors as the artworks can be purchased at very reasonable prices or through the Own Art Scheme, an interest free loan organised through Arts Council England."

Visitors can also vote for their own favourite to be awarded the People’s Prize, and all those who vote will be in with a chance to win a £50 cash prize.

If you would like a tour of the Open Exhibition please contact the Gallery on 01695 571328 or email chapel.gallery@westlancs.gov.uk. There are free family-friendly gallery based activities available during every exhibition at the Chapel Gallery for people to explore, engage and enjoy.

The gallery, on St Helens Road, is open from 10am to 4.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday. It also has a café and craft shop, and admission is free - for more information click www.chapelgallery.org.uk or www.westlancs.gov.uk/chapelgallery or email chapel.gallery@westlancs.gov.uk or call 01695 571328.
