Report from Brian Brighouse

Another fine season for the Ormskirk & District Pool League. We started the league with eight teams but unfortunately lost Tarleton Bowling Club with 7 games to play, hugely disappointing for them because they were top of the league at the time.

The Railway, Parbold came out on top winning the league by a massive 13 points from last season’s champions The 22 Club.

The Bridge took third place with a comprehensive 8 – nil victory over Bar 22 in a delayed final game.

The individual league player of the year was Stuart Linsell (The Railway) who won 15 of the 18 games he played. Other notable performances came from Rick Walker, Steve Murphy, David Taylor & Barry Foster. (66% of available games had to be played to be a contender for this prize)

Stuart also triumphed in the singles with Andy Singleton, also from The Railway taking the runners-up prize.

In a clean sweep of trophies Stuart partnered Steve Murphy also representing The Railway to take the pairs title defeating Charlie Spencer-Rimmer and Paul Nickson (last year’s champions) of The Bridge in a hard fought final.

The presentation night takes place on Saturday 23rd July at 8 pm at the Farmers Club (65 Burscough Street, L39 2EL), there will be free lights on the snooker and pool table and a buffet provided for those attending. All are welcome

And the AGM will take place at the Queen Inn on Monday 1st August 2016 at 8 pm, teams wanting to enter the league for the 2016 – 2017 season need to send a representative to that meeting. Further details can be obtained by contacting thefarmersclub@hotmail.com

League fixtures will commence on Wednesday 14th September with the final league fixtures currently scheduled for Wednesday 5th April 2017 that should help resolve some of the issues caused this year by the clash with the start of the Crown Green bowling season.

Wednesday dates will also be scheduled in for singles and pairs games to take place rather than asking players to arrange games outside of the normal Wednesday Night league schedule.

Representatives attending the August meeting will also need to bring along the fees for the season. Last year that was £10 a team and £2 per individual player. The league committee are reviewing those fees at their July meeting which will take place at 8 pm on the 11th July at the 22 Club.

Any outstanding fees for the 2015 -2016 season will be collect at the AGM.

Well played all that took part and thanks for making the season a great success.
