The advent of ANPR is proving a real boon to local crime fighting, especially at the busy Burscough Ringtail Retail Park which is something of a honey pot to shoplifters attracted to places like Booths.

And despite a multiplicity of cameras in store, some have started to get 'cute' by ordering taxis to wait for them at the Bull and Dog pub - witness a full blooded chase in summer by manager Richard Ford who finally got his man!

Spotted on Wednesday was this BMW which cruised around the car park - and the officer wasn't looking for a parking space!

He was joined by a colleague a few minutes later as a driver was spoken to; ANPR monitors all car park users who are allowed an ample three hours to shop there.
