Maghull Wind Orchestra start their series of summer concerts in Ormskirk on Saturday May 28th.
The band, whose last appearance was as part of the modern opera ‘Get Weaving’ at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, are performing at St Anne’s Church to raise funds for essential repairs to the church roof, starting at 7.30pm.
Mary Whitby, from the church’s fund raising committee, said : “My son used to play with Maghull Wind Orchestra and I’ve seen them play several times so I know they are really good”.
It’s a return appearance by the band which also played as part of St Anne’s fundraising campaign last summer. “Everyone really enjoyed it and we were delighted when MWO agreed to play here again,” said Mary.
Chair of MWO and principal flautist Kate Warriner said: “The band has been working hard on a number of new pieces of music and we’re looking forward to playing them along with some of our established favourites.”
Maghull Wind Orchestra is a community-based symphonic wind orchestra with over 100 members, drawn from the surrounding area from a broad range of backgrounds. Anyone with a passion for music can join – there are no auditions and no membership fees, making MWO a truly inclusive organisation.
The aim of MWO is to provide a high-quality musical experience for all woodwind, brass and percussion musicians, regardless of age or ability, with professional-level directorship headed by the Musical Director Phil Shotton. More information at www.maghullwindorchestra.co.uk
