The popular Lathom & Burscough RBL Bowling club has benefitted from a donation by Redrow towards refurbishing their historic green.
The bowling green, dating back to 1897, had long been in need of repair work and Redrow – with its Grange at Yew Tree Park development nearby – was only too happy to help, donating funds to revitalise the surface.
Funds have helped towards a programme of works involving spiking, top dressing, over-seeding, scarifying and then fertilizing the lawn. The results have provided a quality venue fit for club members, opponents and spectators to appreciate.
“We have an affinity with the community of Burscough, where we are providing a range of family homes at The Grange at Yew Tree Park, and have admiration for the legacy Lathom & Burscough Royal British Legion Bowling Club has provided over the years,” said Lesley Myers, sales manager for Redrow Homes (Lancashire)
“We were delighted to be able to contribute to the refurbishment of the bowling green, which has seen some action over the years – and can now continue to in the future. We’re told that up to 2,000 people of all ages and abilities use the facility each year.”
Located in the centre of Burscough village, the bowling venue is not only used by its own members, but other community organisations such as the Scouts and various church groups.
“On first visit to the club and green it gives the impression of a real secret garden in the centre of what is now a growing and vibrant village,” said John Marriott, chairman of the club.
“Without such financial help, the bowling club members, visitors and the Burscough community would have lost a great resource in the area.”
