West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has continued to raise issues about policing and violent crime, and met with West Lancashire Chief Inspector Jill Halliwell on Friday to discuss further.
Working with the Police and West Lancashire Borough Council, MP Rosie is calling for further action to be taken against those who possess and store violent weapons including, knives, guns and even crossbows.
Rosie Cooper MP commented:
“While I will continue to raise the issue over police funding cuts with government and will push to meet with the Home Secretary Sajid Javid upon government’s return from recess, we need to look at what we can do here and now to tackle the recent spike in serious and violent crime in West. Lancashire.
“I’ve met with West Lancashire Borough Council and Lancashire Constabulary recently and look forward to the rollout of knife amnesty bins in the coming weeks, and also action from WLBC in pursuing evictions for those found to be in possession or keeping such violent weapons in their houses.
“Residents have a responsibility to report or surrender weapons that are coming into the town, but equally the Police must be appropriately resourced to investigate and tackle this hugely serious issue.”
