The reckless Audi A3 driver must have hit 80 as he crested Holborn Hill only to slam on his brakes for the speed, sorry safety, camera outside Aughton Christ Church.

This was on a quiet Tuesday evening at around 10pm but shows how many idiotic drivers are out there who are nonetheless still wary of whether the cameras are 'live' or not.

Recently, the Lancashire Evening Post - as from Saturday the Lancashire Post by the way - submitted an FOI request which revealed that only a fraction of the cameras were working at any one time.

The bad news - or good news considering the devastation a speeding driver can wreak - is at least two of the three Aughton cameras are 'live' with QLocal Ormskirk reader 'GB' spotting the one on Prescot Road being reloaded last week and QLocal's Roger Blaxall witnessing the same at the one near Christ Church. It's not known about the one near Norris House Drive that's meant to lower speeds near Town Green School.

Careful how you go...
