Wealthy folk with West Lancashire connections are again featured in the latest Sunday Times 'Rich List' of the UK’s 1,000 wealthiest individuals and families.
And it's the Moores family - including Halsall resident and former Liverpool FC majority shareholder, David Moores - who are the wealthiest in West Lancashire, and included as one of the UK's 1,000 wealthiest individuals and families.
The list is based on identifiable wealth, including land, property and other assets such as art, racehorses or significant shares in publicly-quoted companies but doesn't include bank accounts.
The Moores family can be found at 114th with an estimated fortune of £1.202bn.
In 2016 Mr Moores was hospitalised following a burglary at his West Lancashire home; he sold his majority stake in Liverpool FC to US businessmen, George Gillet and Tom Hicks in 2007 – a move which proved to be highly controversial - it was reported that he received £90million in the process.
The fortune of the Moores family has stayed the same since last year when they were ranked 106th.
John Hargreaves, 74, the founder of fashion and homeware retailer, Matalan, which used to be based in Skelmersdale but has since moved to nearby Knowsley, is ranked joint 251st with an estimated £500 million, which is the same figure as last year. In 2017 he was joint 245th.
Dave Whelan, the former owner of Wigan Athletic, who lives in Parbold, is listed at joint 554th with £215m. The 81-year-old sold Wigan Athletic earlier this year - last year he had been ranked as joint 493rd with a wealth of £230m.
And Monaco resident Alan Murphy, 69, who made his money from his toilet roll factory in Skelmersdale features on the list at joint 598th with an estimated £190m. He is known as the “bog-roll king”. His wealth and position is the same as last year.
To be included on the list people have to have fortunes of £115m.
