Music, art, delicious gingerbread and fabulous cars are all on the menu at a series of great summer events in Ormskirk for 2017.



The recent Love Your Local Market celebrations in Ormskirk were a great success and helped kick off what will be an amazing summer in the town.

Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council and portfolio holder for Economic Regeneration, said: "Visitors can find so much to enjoy in Ormskirk so people who haven't visited recently really should come and take a look. A range of facilities, including a large number of independent shops and restaurants, are complemented by Ormskirk Market every Thursday and Saturday which goes from strength to strength. With many exciting events also due to take place, Ormskirk really is the place to be this summer."

Art lovers won't want to miss the fabulous Lancashire Open Exhibition at the Chapel Gallery from Saturday 22 July to Wednesday 6 September. This vibrant exhibition, formerly known as the West Lancashire Open Exhibition, is a superb collection of art by accomplished artists from across the UK and is a highlight in the region's arts calendar. More than 150 artworks will be on display at the event from a wide range of artistic media.

Food lovers will have their tastebuds tickled at the Moor Street Night Market on Saturday 29 July, from 6.30pm-9.30pm. Local food and drink establishments will be setting up on the street to serve mouthwatering food as well as cocktails, craft beers and artisan gin. Other street food purveyors will also be selling food, and there will be live music and street entertainment. Entry to the market is free and the event is supported by the Ormskirk Town Centre Management Group.

The exciting Ormskirk Gingerbread Festival on Saturday 29 July has a huge range of fun attractions for all the family from 10am-4pm.

Children can enter the gingerbread competition with prizes donated by local shops and businesses. There will also be vintage games for them to play. The whole family can enjoy music from the Songbirds Community Choir, Ormskirk Ukulele Band, the Burscough Street Disco and the Fairground organ played by Warinus Strode. Circus entertainers, provided by Edge Hill University, will also perform around the Town Centre.

The Gingerbread Festival is organised by Ormskirk Community Partnership (OCP) and supported by the Ormskirk Town Centre Management Group.

OCP and local historian Gerard Swarbrick will have displays of photographs and maps of Ormskirk from different eras. OCP will have other heritage materials on show, and Ormskirk and District Family History Group can advise people on tracing family history. The heritage theme continues with tours of Ormskirk Parish Church.

Music fans are in a for a real treat at the Summer Music Festival in Coronation Park with concerts on at the park bandstand every Saturday and Sunday from Saturday 29 July to Saturday 26 August.

Then on Sunday 27 August huge crowds will flock to the town for the marvellous Ormskirk MotorFest. This annual motoring extravaganza is one of the biggest free family events in the North West. Thousands of people are expected to come and admire more than 300 cars and motorcycles from all eras of motoring that will be on display, and enjoy fun activities throughout the day.
