'Those summer nights' - sung in the style of 'Grease' - would have been the ideal soundtrack for members of the West Lancs MG owners club as they enjoyed a summer's evening picnic in Southport.

Last Saturday evening they rolled into Southport for a run out in the MG's and to watch the sun go down at the sea wall on the Marine Drive.

They usually go to Rivington Pike near the summit of Winter Hill but the last couple of years the weather has not been so good so we thought we would try Southport to see if it would be a little kinder to us and also give us a spectacular sunset over the Irish Sea.

The Saturday evening was chosen as it was the nearest to the summer solstice; we all arrived between 8.00 to 8.30pm and parked up by the sea wall on marine drive, with all of the members bringing tables and chairs and the trusty picnic bags full of goodies to be eaten and drank.

Although the weather could have been a bit warmer and less windy we did manage to have the picnic outside and not sat in the cars and more importantly not a drop of rain fell.

We had 19 members come in 10 cars of which where 1 VW Camper Van,3 MGB's,1 TD,3 MGF's and 2 MGB-GT's.

Although the weather wasn't at its best we did manage to see the sun go down with a half hearted sunset!
