Delighted residents in Rufford are starting the new year in brand new homes.

The mix of affordable two and three bed homes, which are owned and managed by the Torus housing group, are part of the prestigious Roseacre Meadows development.

Torus chief executive Rob Young and chair, Graham Burgess along with Councillor Jenny Forshaw, were on hand to welcome the new residents.

Dawn and her 10 year old daughter, were handed the keys to their new two bedroom home just before Christmas. The full-time nurse, who has lived in Rufford for 16 years, said: “We needed to move out of our previous home at the end of November but finding somewhere we could afford was tough.

“We love living in Rufford. My daughter goes to the local primary school and we’re both really involved in the local community, so leaving the village was the last thing we wanted to do.

“These homes are perfect, spacious and within our budget too. Being able to move in before Christmas was just the best present ever.”

Torus group chief executive Rob Young said: “Providing affordable housing for local people is a key priority for Torus and we’re proud of the work we do with local councils like West Lancashire to help people rent and buy more affordably.

"It was a pleasure to meet Dawn and her daughter Helina and we hope they’ll be very happy in their new home.”

West Lancashire Borough Council has worked with the developer and Torus to provide these new affordable homes. The Council nominates tenants for the rented homes, giving initial priority to people with a local connection to Rufford.

Councillor Jenny Forshaw, who is portfolio holder for housing and landlord services for West Lancashire Borough Council, added: "The Council is really pleased that these families were able to move into their new homes in time for Christmas. I am sure it made the festive season even more special for them."

Demand for affordable homes to rent and buy in Rufford has been considerable and five more homes will be released in Spring.

Anyone interested in renting a home from Torus will need to register with West Lancs Homefinder.
